Is there a wait list to get an appointment?

How is a WCB claim opened?

You must complete an ‘Injured Worker Report’. Your employer should be able to provide you with a form. If you have not done so we can provide you with one at the clinic. Your employer must also complete an ‘Employer Report of Accident’ form. The last form that is required is your therapist must complete the ‘Physiotherapy Assessment’ form.

Do I need to see a doctor?

You can start physiotherapy without seeing a physician first however the WCB requires that you see a physician within 5 days of starting physiotherapy.

I am off work and am afraid that if I go back I will injure myself more

Your therapist will work closely with you, your employer, your case manager, and your physicians to ensure that can perform all the duties expected of you when you return to work. If you are unable to perform you regular duties we will work with your employer to get you back to modified duties so that you can gradually increase your activity.

I am not off work but still need therapy does WCB cover this?

Yes. The official term is a ‘no loss time claim’. If your claim is accepted WCB will cover the cost of your treatments while you continue to attend work. With Nor Med’s extended hours of operation you will likely be able to book your appointments around your work schedule so you will have to miss little or no work.

How many appointments does WCB Cover?

This depends on many details such as the severity, complexity and extent of your injury. Generally for soft tissue injuries WCB will cover a maximum of 18 visits over 6 weeks. If you recover prior to this - that’s great. If your injury is more complex you may be provided with an extension either at Nor Med Therapies or you may be required to complete your treatment at the WCB Millard Centre in Edmonton.

What if WCB does not accept my claim?

If WCB does not accept your claim you will be required to pay for all treatments following your initial assessment. Should your claim be denied Nor Med Therapies will provide you with all documentation you require in order to submit your costs to any health insurance you may have. With enhanced communication and experience verification of claim acceptance or denial is generally is received very early in the course of treatment.
